Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
1. About this policy
This policy explains how information may be stored or processed when you visit PlayLINKTOWN.com at www.playlinktown.com and when you use its multiplayer features.
PlayLINKTOWN.com does not currently use advertising cookies. Google Analytics, self-hosted Umami analytics and Umami session recording are optional and have separate consent choices. None loads before you opt in.
2. Local storage used by the site
PlayLINKTOWN.com and LINKTOWN use browser local storage for functionality and preferences. Local storage is stored in your browser and is not the same technology as a traditional HTTP cookie.
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| ltown_callsign | Remembers your LINKTOWN player callsign. |
| ltown_last_lan_host | Remembers the most recently used LAN host/address. |
| linktownCommunityNoticeDismissed | Remembers when you dismiss the community mirror notice. |
| playlinktownPrivacyChoicesV2 | Remembers your separate Google Analytics, Umami analytics and session-recording choices for up to 180 days. The older playlinktownAnalyticsConsent value may remain in your browser but no longer enables tracking. |
These values can be removed using your browser's site-data or storage controls.
3. Google Analytics
PlayLINKTOWN.com uses Google Analytics 4 to help understand how the website is used. Analytics is optional.
The Google Analytics script is not loaded by PlayLINKTOWN.com unless you select Google Analytics and save your choices. If you reject analytics, PlayLINKTOWN.com does not intentionally load Google Analytics.
When enabled, Google Analytics may process information about your visit, including pages viewed, interactions, device and browser information, approximate location derived from network information, and identifiers used for analytics. Google Analytics may also use cookies or similar technologies.
Google is responsible for its own processing of information through the Google Analytics service. You can read Google's privacy information at Google Privacy Policy.
4. Self-hosted Umami analytics and session recording
We use self-hosted Umami analytics. If you enable Umami analytics, your browser sends visit and interaction information to this self-hosted service to help improve this site. This may include page URLs, referrers, browser and device information and visit timing. Requests to the server necessarily expose your IP address to the receiving infrastructure.
Session recording is a separate, optional choice. If you enable it, your browser loads the session-recording tool. It can send a reconstruction of the visible page and interactions such as clicks, scrolling and navigation for replay and troubleshooting. Do not include personal or sensitive information in callsigns, chat or other game fields. Recording is not necessary to play, and rejecting it does not prevent access to the game.
We do not claim that recording is anonymous or that every field is masked. Recording may capture personal information visible on the page. Analytics and recording are processed on the site operator's self-hosted service; Google Analytics is a separate service. Contact the operator below for retention details or to exercise applicable data-protection rights, including access or erasure. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changing your privacy choices
Use Privacy settings in the game at any time. Choices are off by default and stored for up to 180 days. Saving a changed choice reloads the page to stop any previously loaded tracker. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not erase data already sent. Clearing preferences here also notifies other open tabs on the same hostname. Settings are stored separately on www and non-www hostnames.
5. Multiplayer and peer-to-peer connections
LINKTOWN uses WebRTC for multiplayer connectivity. WebRTC can establish direct peer-to-peer connections between players.
As part of establishing or maintaining a multiplayer connection, networking information such as IP addresses may be processed by other players' devices and by connectivity services involved in establishing or relaying the connection.
Depending on network conditions, a direct peer-to-peer connection may not always be possible. A TURN relay may then carry multiplayer traffic between players.
6. Multiplayer infrastructure
The current LINKTOWN application may communicate with third-party services to provide room discovery, signalling and WebRTC connectivity. These include:
- EMQX public MQTT infrastructure for public-room presence/discovery.
- PeerJS Cloud for WebRTC signalling and connection setup.
- Google STUN services for WebRTC connectivity.
- Twilio STUN services for WebRTC connectivity.
- OpenRelay / Metered TURN services where relay connectivity is required.
These services are operated independently and may process technical information such as IP addresses and connection metadata according to their own policies.
7. Cloudflare
PlayLINKTOWN.com is delivered using Cloudflare services, including Cloudflare Pages and Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes normal network and web-request information required to deliver and protect the website.
More information is available in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
8. Information you provide in the game
Your chosen player callsign may be visible to other players while using multiplayer features. Avoid using a callsign containing personal information that you do not want other players to see.
9. Children
PlayLINKTOWN.com is not intended to collect personal information directly from children. Users should avoid entering personal information into callsigns or other multiplayer fields.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when PlayLINKTOWN.com, LINKTOWN, its multiplayer infrastructure or the analytics configuration changes. The date at the top of this page shows when this policy was last updated.
